History

Nigel Cooper established his restoration & sales business in the long hot summer of 1976, close to Ladbroke Grove in Notting Hill with a partner & one employee after serving for a number of years as an apprentice & self employed specialist in ‘old’ cars, as they were then classed.

He found life infinitely more pleasurable driving a 1963 Mercedes Benz 220 SE Convertible (purchased at the time at £450) rather than the hot hatch type cars that were then becoming so popular, & as a result, he suffered heat stroke whilst sourcing equipment for the first workshop!
Business was brisk, both classic car owners & dealers alike recognised the quality workmanship.

Quality has always been valued above price consideration & Cooper’s reputation spread like wildfire – expansion became necessary.

One railway arch, then two, & then three, until no more expansion at the original site was available.

An even larger premises was acquired, & with the increasing interest in Classic Cars, specialist craftsmen became essential to carry out this high quality work – don’t worry – Cooper hunted them down!
By ‘87 the classic car movement had been transformed & there was a far greater & more popular movement afoot.
Restorations of Mercedes Benz, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin & Lancia all became Concours prize winners.

Note controlled budget restorations are available for owners who wish to use their cars on daily basis.
New Coachworks is to keen to keep ‘daily use’ alive & well.
After further moves, we now find ourselves in a new premises in West London with many of the same loyal craftsmen.
The New Coachworks principle remains the same:

To produce top quality work to the highest standard tailored to the use of the vehicle concerned.
There are two standards available … Concours – or just perfect!
